The Inflation Reduction Act marks the most significant action Congress has taken on clean energy and climate change in the nation’s history. Section 60107(5) of the Inflation Reduction Act requires EPA to assess the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that result from changes in domestic electricity generation and use through 2031.

This PA law, from 2004, required all electric utilities to purchase 8% renewable energy in their portfolio by May of 2021. Included in that 8% is 0.5% solar. All utilities met the goal and nothing has happened since. While PA remains stuck in its fossil fuel past, all the surrounding states have moved into the future, adopting aggressive goals for much higher levels of renewable energy.

Today Acadia Center released its third Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) assessment, RGGI: Findings and Recommendations, which analyzed the program’s impacts to date and offers recommendations for adjusting RGGI in coming years.

Assuming all goes well 2023 will be the year the Commonwealth actually starts to participate Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).

In 2021, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory launched a collaborative effort to develop standardized plan review software that can run compliance checks and process building permit approvals for eligible rooftop solar systems.
